Charming village at the confluence of the Cèze and the Rhone, the town of Codolet extends over 517 hectares.
The first mention of its existence dates back to 1314. His name then was Codoleto of Ecclesia.
Before the revolution, the village belongs to the Vicariate of the Diocese of Bagnols and Uzès.
The ancient port of the slate is, in fact, the ancient port of Codolet. He succeeded in many Roman port sites, used to transport wood, tiles, cereals, oils and of course very famous wines of the region.
The name comes from the Occitan Codolet Coudoulet which means small pebble.
Fortified around 1380, to protect themselves from "Road", the village was completely surrounded by ramparts. The last remnant of these fortifications was demolished in 1856. It remains as a witness to the medieval period that some doors like the one that remains of the Arch Street.
The monument is remarkable Codolet church, dedicated to the patronage of St Michel. The present building was blessed in 1856. The ancient monument, considered too dilapidated, was completely demolished. In the late 80's, the interior was completely renovated: Baroque-inspired, colors, gilding, the starry ceiling give this place an original stamp.
