TOWN PRESENTATION

Clerval is located in the Franche-Comté in the department of Doubs, 35 km to 50 km Montbéliard and Besançon. The inhabitants are called Clervalois. Clerval was founded in the 12th century, when the Count of Burgundy built a castle. The site was inhabited since antiquity and even prehistory. Cave Milopet revealed traces of human occupation dating from the Neolithic.

Over the centuries, a village was built around the castle, a walled city surrounded by walls.

Since 2001, the municipality has made significant investments to enhance its built heritage.

Gastronomic specialties: cheese (cream cheese production, county and clocks), wafers Clervaloises.

SIGHTSEEING

The Museum of Memory and Peace, established in June 1990: As part of the duty to remember and to perpetuate the memory of the French and the Allies who fought or died for France, the Museum of Memory and Peace of Clerval presents the two major conflicts of the 20th century: the 1914-1918 war and the conflicts of decolonization (Indochina and Algeria) in the east wing of the old castle, the 1939-1945 war in a renovated building.

The playground provides entertainment for kids of all ages outdoor games, boules and multi-sports field.

A Clerval, there are over 25 organizations offering a variety of activities: bowling, badminton, football, handball, judo, running, tennis, table tennis, music school marching band and harmony, firemen, fishing, crafts, scrabble, theater , library, gym, dance.

The bikeway (Nantes-Budapest) Clerval passes, runs along the Doubs, which allows very pleasant walks on foot, by bike, on skates ...

EVENTS AND CELEBRATIONS

"Carnival" in the spring: it takes place every other year to Clerval: a year Clerval then a year Sancey-le-Grand.

"Garage sale": the 2nd half of June

"Oh, the colors" this great event takes place the weekend of July 14 and is organized by the municipality.

"Christmas Market" in early December.
