The town of Chérac, located atop a hill overlooking the Charente vineyards and away from busy roads.

The Roman presence is attested in the territory of the town whose name seems to come from Carius, owner Gallo-Roman. The first inhabitants were at Landart, as shown by numerous excavations. The hill where now stands a ruined mill is probably an ancient mound built by our distant ancestors. History Chérac is too rich to be summarized in a few lines as evidenced by the old house and fields that you find at the bend in the road.

Chérac is one of nine villages of the Communauté de Communes du Pays Buriaud. Burie, cradle of Pineau des Charentes, is the capital of Canton.
