At the heart of the Massif des Monédières, Chaumeil is a very nice and authentic village in stone (granite) and slate roofs, providing a clear view of the "puys" surrounding.

Agriculture, with cows and breeding ewes limousine, is the main local economy.

The most famous fruit of this land is the blueberry, wild or cultivated, which is widely celebrated every year on the last Sunday of July.

Chaumeil was internationally famous in 1950 to 70 years with the children of the village, renowned accordionist Jean Ségurel. An exhibition devoted to it in the building of the town hall.
