Located on the left bank of the Layon river channeled under Louis XVI, is a village surrounded by vineyards famous for their vineyards. In 1244, this village was called Calidus fons, which means "hot spring" because the source of La Madeleine, operated in the Middle Ages to treat bone diseases. From 15th to 19th century Chaudefonds was also an important place of lime production, as evidenced by the many furnaces still visible, including several in the village.
