At equal distance of the cathedrals of Paris and Reims (80 km), Charly-sur-Marne is an ancient walled city dating back to the 9th century.

Built on the right bank of the Marne and crossed by the Ru, Charly-sur-Marne boasts the largest vineyard Champagne from the Aisne.

Originally a villa or farmhouse. In 858 it is found for the first time in a charter of Charles the Bald 2nd, which gives Charly at the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Soissons. The villa Carliaca or farm of Charles did not initially consisted only huts, shacks, serving exploitation of land and house serfs who cultivated them.

Charly has called Carliacus, Carleium (1147), Charles (1158), Challiacus (1261), Challis (1266), Chaaly (1481), Chally sur Marne (1484) and Charly sur Marne since 1552.

• The convent of the Cordeliers: In the Rue du Faubourg de Villiers at No. 9, one can admire a beautiful restoration of the old facade of the chapel of the Franciscan convent who lived in these places in the 15th century.
• The Church of St. Martin: Dedicated to St. Martin, she goes back to the 13th and 14th centuries. It is surmounted by a square tower which, in the 18th century, was ended by an arrow slate, now destroyed. One notices the font of the 13th century from the abbey of St. Jean des Vignes de Soissons, several paintings, including a triptych of the 16th "The Life of the Virgin" and a set of stained glass of the nineteenth, from the chapel of Notre Dame de Bon Secours in the life of Jesus. The facade of the church was rebuilt in 1903. Interesting: Cavalli-Coll organ.
• Tower and Napoleon's tomb Cornette:

• Napoleon Tower (private property) is located at 12 Avenue Fernand Drouet. It was erected in 1830 by the owner of the premises at the time, the battalion commander Amand Prosper Cornette, a former officer of the 1st Empire. She has the distinction of being surmounted by a statue of Napoleon in the first foot and a weather vane depicting a mounted officer and a band marching beneath a triumphal arch. The statue of the emperor looks towards the Invalides.
• The tomb Cornette (at the bottom of the property, take the path of "half pay" to do so) contains the remains of the captain since 1847 and that of his wife. A large granite slab engraved remember all these states service of the Revolution and the Empire. The tomb is surmounted by a statue of Napoleon identical to that of the tower.
