Champagnac the word comes from a man's name in Latin: Campanius. The term "the Noaille" takes its name from Novalia which means newly cleared land.

The manor is attested from the 14th century it belonged successively to the families of Mirambel, and Cardaillac Roquemaurel.

The town overlooks the valley of Doustre, upstream of Lake Marcillac-la-Croisille and has a couple of monumental crosses scattered throughout its territory. The architecture of the church of St. Martin-in-Tour is varied by changes made over the centuries. The nave and the polygonal apse date from the 12th century. The side chapels were added in the late Middle Ages. Important works were made from 1885, including the reconstruction of the bell wall. Inside is a liter (painting made for a funeral) bearing the coats of arms of families of La Chassagne Mirambel and Sédières. The church also retains a beautiful liturgical furniture of the 19th century altar and a bell from the 16th century statuette of a set of 17th and 18th centuries including a representation of Saint Light (c. 1700), a barrel of altar (v. 1650). The village and its surroundings have many farms built in the seventeenth, eighteenth and twentieth centuries. In the village of Miginiac is the Saint-Léger, small building built in the 17th century.
