Built on the banks of the Saône some 3000 years ago, after a naval base in antiquity, instead of large fairs during the Middle Ages and trading center for modern times and modern times, is now under Chalon-sur-Saône prefecture of Saone-et-Loire, the first town in the department and the second economic center of Burgundy. Chalon is a cultural capital town of art history and home to many tourist attractions: museums Denon and Niepce, who has over two million images and the first camera created, Space Arts, the 'Abattoir (one of six National Centers of Production Street), the National Conservatory of Music and Dance, the Cathedral of St. Vincent and the Parc des Expositions, not to mention the streets of Strasbourg, mark all food.
Another monument: the Carnival. For nearly a century, is one of the most prestigious and famous of France. It is characterized mainly by "gôniots" characters created Chalon, kings of disguise ugly and burlesque, and its carnival rides home to the most important and innovative. Each year, more than 10,000 visitors attend this genuine institution.
But the city is best known for its cultural event "Chalon dans la Rue", which meets annually since 1986 in July, artists, street theater, ready to show the richness of their creativity and talent for the benefit Chalon public and visitors. This is one of the largest street performance festival held in France, acclaimed around the hexagon and Europe.

In 2002, Chalon was chosen as a pilot city to engage in the program PRIVILEGE (Cities Initiative Programme for Reducing Greenhouse Gas), signed with the ADEME and the European Union. Not to mention that it also invests in bike paths and green spaces so popular with tourists and Chalon.

This cultural event brings together artists of street theater, ready to show the richness of their creativity and their talents to the public Chalonnais and visitors. This is one of the most important festivals of street show held in France, acclaimed around the hexagon and Europe.
