SIGHTSEEING

The Church of Our Lady of Purification: The parish church of Causses is a former chapel. This may explain that it is surrounded by homes. In the attic of one of them gives access to an old walkway. The choir and the semicircular apse of the church date from the late 10th century-early 11th century. The right side chapel of the chancel is 15th century vaulted arches capped History (4 evangelists). To the south, another chapel with vault liernes 15th century is very beautiful. These two chapels were restored in 1977. The high altar whose base is made of cut stones in media lightning and a table tombstone, erected in the middle of the apse was dedicated in 1968 by the Bishop of Montpellier. The spiral staircase that provides access to the tower (old defense tower overlooking the plain to Béziers) is also the 15th century (one of the bells date from 1667, Name: Julie-Marie-Caussette. It was cracked in the ringing on the occasion of the armistice of 1918). The Romanesque nave was rebuilt in the 15th century and has two bays. The priory of Saint-Sever: We can see now the hamlet of Veyran a priory, the first example of Romanesque art, called "Lombard". It is characterized here by the opulence of the apse. The apse wall, in fact, stiffened by small spurs, called pilaster strips, is pierced by a single very narrow window to light. The semi-circular apse is decorated with Lombard bands and cords of lava (black basalt). The nave is framed. Probably built in the 11th century, the oldest written record we have preserved this priory date of 1156. However, there are 922 references to a "Molinus of Avairano" Veyran mill. This raised the priory of the abbey of Cassan until the Revolution. The priory of Saint-Sever is now a tasting room belonging to the Mas Gabinèle.

The Roman towers, sixty seven meters between these pillars of different sizes (6.75 m in circumference for a, 7.42 m for the other). Built of limestone and buried nearly 2 m in the ground, the towers amount to 5 m above the ground. The two cells were recorded monument July 30, 1963.

Three circuits between the vines, scrubland and foothills. Provide walking shoes and camera. The site offers a great biodiversity.

Visit the farm at a place called Ricounels: discovering animal wool (llama, alpaca and cashmere goats), visiting the saffron (saffron and discover the secrets of the culture of saffron bloom from October 15 to November 15: steps the transformation of the flower spice).
