Its name comes from "Castillo neu" = Castle nine that rose on the site of a small parish called Doen. The bastide was founded in 1259 by Alphonse de Poitiers. Its history can be summarized in a series of fires during the Hundred Years Wars of Religion.

The church, rebuilt in the nineteenth century, the altarpiece is Baroque holdings. Besides, is the rectory, beautiful Périgord-style house dating from the eighteenth century. The old clod Mouthe is wearing the castle, built in the eleventh, which runs today and a public garden where you have a wonderful view over the valley Dropt.
