Carlat is a rural commune of the Cantal, which gave its name to the country Carladez. The village belongs to the canton of Vic-sur-Cere and the district of Aurillac.

Once on the rock of Carlat, flat piece of an old lava flow, was the most important strongholds of the Haute-Auvergne.
