The origin of its name comes from a certain Calvinus a Latin or Romanized Gauls of the Gallo-Roman. The original nucleus of the village lay on the hills, crossed by a road flanked by a castle and a chapel. It remained after the construction of the fortress the street called Pavement, doubled by the artery known as the Ditch. The town has expanded in the plain in the 19th century at the expense of neighboring municipalities and Cassaniouze Mourjou. It was then that Calvinet took off thanks to the success of its fairs and opening the road to Maurs Montsalvy.
