The origins of Calmont back to the priory of Saint-Sernin de Pauliac which was located on the left bank of the river, between the hamlet of Peyret and the latter. In 1202, Lord, Otto of Léran, gave to the priory with all its stronghold Calmont which included a castle built on a hillside near the Coustet, overlooking a small town and a fortified house on the edge of Hers . Then the name was substituted Calmont Pauliac than to refer to the priory. It seems that the etymology of the word, Calmont, comes from the old spelling, Calvomonte, meaning Bald Mountain (from the Latin mons, hill, calvus, bald, balding).
Nothing is known of the Albigensian Crusade but Esclarmonde of Foix, lord of Pamiers and Raimon Alfaro, Lord Avignonet, as Cathars, it is likely that Catharism was widespread in the area and therefore Calmont.
Located on the edge of Toulouse and the County of Foix, the village was soon being challenged. There was shared in 1230 between the heirs of Otto of Léran and the Abbot of Saint-Sernin. In 1270, Alphonse de Poitiers, Count of Toulouse, is occupying land and founded a fortified castle (known as "La Tourelle") at the foot of feudal keep. Become capital of a bailiwick, governed by consuls, Calmont is joined to the crown of France. In the early years of the 14th century, the barony of Calmont is entrusted to Bernard Saquet whose immediate family will retain the lordship until the mid-15th century
It then passed in 1463, in the hands of Jean de Chateau-Verdun, seneschal of the Count of Foix. It was he who built about 1485 on the banks of Hers, Calmont downstream of the first castle Terraqua.
At the time of the Reformation, the Château-Verdun converted to Calvinism and kept the field for the cause of the Reformed (Saverdun battle in 1574). The people imitated his lords and the town became an important centers of the Reformation in the region. In 1625, Marshal Thémines took the city had raised with the Duke of Rohan, head of the Calvinist party, and burned and the church and the temple.
In the early 17th century, the Lord is the Lord of Greuil, and about 1640, is Antoine de Paulo and his family bear the title of baron, viscount and then Calmont. It is a member of this family, Jules de Paulo, who was the best known leaders of the royalist insurrection of the seventh year (1799) in the region.
The second temple was rebuilt in the same place as the first, at the current location of the presbytery, but demolished in the revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685. In 1803, the place of Protestant worship was built at the end of the street of Petra in 1847, it was sold to the town who set the town hall and school. This building was swept away by the flood of June 23, 1875. The present temple, the fourth, in 1846.
The Catholic Church, restored the first time in 1634, was rebuilt in the same place after 1685 and inaugurated in 1691.
The fortified house on the banks of the river and keeping the ford, there are only two towers of the 14th century Circular: the top one was remade, the other uncrowned and has a hexagonal dovecote. It is classified a historical monument.
