SIGHTSEEING
  • Mills: Until about 1760, 8 mills were located on the Indre: flour mills, cloth mills and downstream to a mill that was spraying tan oak bark used in the preparation of hides. The most important were the "Bridge mills" owned by Robert, lord of the 11th century Buzançais.
  • Street Bridges: The multiple arms of the Indre is a major characteristic of Buzançais, "the city of seven bridges. To access the city from the west, he had to cross the Indre on a series of wooden bridges. The city experienced several major floods in 1600, 1604, 1660, 1740 and 1910. Street Bridges is that we find the birthplace of Albert Laprade (1883-1978), world-renowned architect, member of the Institute.
  • Place Balanant: Place Games and Monument of the War of 1870. It derives its name from the bowling installed outside the walls. You can still see part of the wall that extends from the other side of the Rue Neuve. The place now bears the name of Victor Balanant. The memorial of the 1870 war is the work of sculptor Ernest Nivet Berry.
  • Walled enclosure: Most of the fortifications were dismantled in the late 18th century. But you can see on the Rue Neuve location moat tower pierced by a deadly wall. Rue Neuve is that it was fine bourgeois mansions targets of the rioters from hunger in 1847.
  • Rue Aristide Briand: It is the portal of the Hotel Dieu, built on the proposal of Charles Paul Francis Beauvilliers. It is set in the corner building of the Hôpital Saint Roch, and nearby was a view of the central body of the Hotel Dieu of the 17th century and its beautiful gardens.
  • Chapelle Saint-Lazare: Remnants of the former leper colony from the 12th century.
  • Priory Holy Cross: It is located on rue Victor Hugo. Founded in January 1418 by Jean de Prie, lord of Buzançais, it housed a community of monks of the Crosier order. Closed 6 years before the revolution he was successively hall, granary, horse post and lingerie garment factories until 1983. Since 1985, it is partly owned by an association of backup.
  • Street of the old Town Hall: This is where the remaining foundations of the former Old Castle at the end of which was built the tower of which only vestiges remain. Built on a mound in the second half of the 9th century, it was gradually surrounded by the "old town" where people sought his protection.
  • Place de Gaulle: Le Pavillon des Ducs - 1531 - was built by admiral Chabot, who allowed the funding of 3 expeditions of Jacques Cartier, discoverer of New France. The castle was the location of the current position. It was destroyed by German troops August 30, 1944. The neo-gothic church of the 19th and 20th centuries leads to the only remains of the castle gardens descending in terraces to the edge of the Indre. Next Great Gardens, the former Romanesque church of Saint Honore was burned by German troops August 30, 1944. On its site, the current City Hall was built. It bears the old seals of the lordship and the armorial bearings of the Chabot family.
