TOWN PRESENTATION

Name of inhabitants: Buressois and Buressoises

Population: 9748 inhabitants

The station downtown and that of the Bures Hacquinière located 35 minutes from Paris by the RER B line. At the heart of the Chevreuse Valley, old houses meuliere early 20th century houses and modern coexist without affecting the charm of this ancient village often sketched by artists.

Bures has many historic sites: the Church of St. Matthew the 17th century, the city park Pérolat the mill Guibert, who still uses water power water Yvette, Great House, the viaduct where the warblers refurbished 'can be hiking and climbing, the fountain of youth of Hacquinière. Many footpaths promote the walk along the wooded hillsides, and around the impoundment.

Bures hosts on its territory a part of the University Paris-Sud, Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques (IHES), and the Institute of Optometry and Center which trains opticians-lunettiers of tomorrow, and houses a museum devoted to ophthalmic optics.

Quality programming and creative workshops and entertainment are offered at the Cultural Center Marcel Pagnol, the library and the Big House. Many activities and sporting activities (raid 28, 12 hours of Bures) take place at Louis Chabrat Center (gym, stadium, tennis, dojo) and training Léo-Lagrange, promoting a rich community life.


SIGHTSEEING
  • The station stalemate Station: Established in 1891, it allows Buressois to go to Paris in 1h30. The electrification of the line in 1938-1939 reduced the journey to 30 minutes. The station is composed of 3 buildings, segmental arched windows and brick quoins of stone.
  • The flags in front of the track: Between the last third of the 19th century and the first world war, this type of construction was developed: the flag in rectangular or L, with a garden and a front stone grit.
  • The Church of St. Matthew, St. Charles de Gaulle, the former Grand-Rue: Dedicated to the Gospel, Matthew, is constructed of a simple plan with an apse, nave of four bays. It was then renovated from 1971 to 1981 by volunteers. The church retains some paintings from the 17th and 19th centuries and several objects classified as historic monuments: a bronze bell from 1756, the tombstone engraved 16th century, a statue of the Virgin and Child 17th century.
  • The memorial, place of remembrance at the site of the old cemetery: This millstone monument, surrounded by four shells is dedicated to the dead of both world wars. The bronze plaque of the stele has some chips due to bombardment of the town of Bures in June 1944.
  • La Grande Maison St. Charles de Gaulle: the 16th century, the peasant Jean Bremont there built two houses and a barn. The property was successively named "White House" and "Big House". In 1805, it belongs to Louis Adrien Le Paige, son of the last Lord of Bures. The Great House and its grounds were acquired in 1982 by the town. A mill is mentioned in this place in 1402: the Moulin du Pont.
  • The Cross Bures Street Realm: Dated the 18th century it was restored about 1930 by Abbot Choupault. It consists of a base of two degrees, a rectangular pedestal and was surmounted by a cross.
  • On campus, towards the faculty: the university fits within a broad scientific center focus of many schools and research centers, the best known is the Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique Saclay.
  • The Fountain St. Matthew Road Fountain St. Matthew: It supplied a laundry built in 1868 and demolished around 1960 due to water pollution.
  • The former girls' school, instead of the Post: It was complemented by the right school for boys and the town hall, built in 1899 as she, but were destroyed during the bombardment of the town June 15, 1944. It is now a house.
  • City hall, rue Charles de Gaulle: The first town hall built in 1899 was destroyed by bombing in 1944. The current building was built in 1953 beside the old Grand Street and enlarged in 1974.
  • The Chateau Grand-Mesnil, rue Charles de Gaulle: The French-chateau, surrounded by a park was created around 1630 by Antoine de Valles. In 1734, the estate was bought by Pierre Fauchard. In 1788, the first municipal assembly is held in place. In 1954, the department installs a hospice. The castle is now an annex of the hospital Orsay.
