The story of this little village is full of a famous battle. Indeed, in September 866, a band of Bretons and Normans (Vikings) passes through the Sarthe, the site of the present church, and will plunder Le Mans. Returning from this expedition, she was attacked in the same place by a band of warriors francs collected by Robert the Strong, Count of Anjou. Bretons and Normans, lock themselves in the church of Brissarthe. Besieged, they attempt an exit and managed to kill Robert the Strong. They dragged his body into the church. Another count, the party of the Franks at Poitiers Ramnulf is killed by an arrow shot from the church. Gone are the determination of the Franks who abandon the fight. Bretons and Normans continued their journey. Note that Robert the Strong is the great great grandfather of Hugh Capet, and thus, the ancestor of the Capetian.

The Community of Communes of Haut Anjou is the owner of a wood of 30 hectares in the town of Brissarthe. It is open to the public. There is a nature trail with interpretive signs and names of trees. There is also a fitness trail a little old but still workable. Both routes are signposted. Boules and parking are available to visitors. Free admission.

Every first Sunday in June held a garage sale well known to locals. Many exhibitors and visitors.

All July 13, Brissarthe organizes one of the last fireworks of the region, with a ball and picnics.
