The name comes from the Briod Celtic language and means hill.
A Coldra, a Gallo-Roman camp covers a 3.2 hectare site forming a rocky outcrop overlooking Lons-le-Saunier, and culminating at 557 meters. From this site, the view extends over the Jura mountains to the east and west Bresse. Naturally protected to the east, south and west by rocky cliffs, it is bounded on the north by a wall in an arc running from east to west over 280 m long and 20 m wide. This forum is composed of two uneven walls spaced 2.40 m. The occupation of the site would have taken the first millennium BC to the 6th century. Today only one house, called "Roman Farm" stands, away from the wall, in the camp Coldra. The only visible remains are covered with earth fortifications, forming a mound. The two walls are observed in an opening on the road to the Hermitage Conliège.
The church of Saint-Etienne de Coldra goes for the oldest of the diocese after that of Besançon. It is listed on the Inventory of Historical Monuments. A panel presentation of the church is located at the entrance to the site. The back of the cemetery contains the graves old and offers a beautiful view over the town of Lons-le-Saunier.
In the locality of Coldra, many remains attest to human presence from the first millennium BC. This site still has traces of a Roman camp and a Merovingian cemetery. It also has a chapel, the chapel of Saint-Etienne de Coldra located in a cemetery tombstones original houses dating from the 19th century. Included in the Inventory of Historical Monuments, the building reflects the persistence of the Romanesque style in the late Gothic period.
