Bramans is a small village of 390 inhabitants, with a glorious past!
In 218 BC Hannibal and his elephants crossed the land 37 before beginning his ascent to the Col Clapier Crosta to fight the Romans in nearby Italy. Charlemagne and the ascent of the Petit-Mont-Cenis by Crosta before Napoleon decides to open a road (N6 become current D1006) by Lanslebourg and Col du Mont Cenis (different from the Col du Petit-Mont-Cenis !). One can read in some books written in Latin "Bramovicum olim metropolis" (formerly Bramans city) means that this village had a very important past.
SIGHTSEEING
Overlooking Bramans on the old Roman road leading to Italy, Saint-Pierre d'Extravache, one of the oldest churches in Savoy, offers a splendid view of the Vanoise and the village.
The town is situated in the Vanoise National Park, hiking that you can practice on this beautiful area are numerous. Path of Hannibal, Grand Tour of Haute-Maurienne (GHTF) or Trail Bramans refuges. At the heart of the park, the Glacier de la Vanoise and Dent Parrachée are one of the wonders hidden in the Alps this little corner preserved.
On 15 August Bramans is an event not to be missed, while many Maurienne gather here every year is good for one thing, carry on the tradition of pagan holy bread. In the morning a parade with the band dressed firefighters Second Napoleonic Empire, women and children in traditional costume, and each even year Spadonari of the village of Twin Giaglione.
Every year since 2005, the Grande Odyssée Savoie Mont-Blanc crowd Bramans land mid-January over a week. This sled dog race, considered by its participants as the most difficult in the world, accumulating more than 25,000 m of vertical cumulative.
ATTRACTIONS, LEISURES AND ACTIVITES AROUND
A 4 km downstream from the village, towards Modane, the forts of Esseillon. On this natural barrier, 5 forts erected by the Italians fearful about 150 years ago a French invasion.
Around the forts of Esseillon, many activities. Via ferrata du Diable, in the gorges of the same name, or one of the longest zip lines in the world with 250 m of vacuum above the gorge.
Along the river through the valley, the Arc, rafting or canoeing, trout fishing ... At its source, near Bonneval (ranked among the most beautiful villages of France), canyoning descent. A Sollières Airfield (3 miles), ultralight flights in summer and winter. And many other activities.
