TOWN PRESENTATION

Bourgtheroulde is located on the plateau Roumois. The village is a day's march from Rouen. The town soon became a stop for travelers and merchants who use hostels, army troops that residents are required to accommodate the common-law prisoners or deserters to transfer to a court or prison custody for one night or more long in the prison of the town. In 1632, the great road from Rouen in Normandy and Brittany through the center of town. In 1868, the Imperial Highway No. 138 between Rouen to Bordeaux in the Eure in Essarts Infreville and fate of Bosc-Bénard-Commin after passing Bourgtheroulde. Therould gave his name to the town. Bernard the Dane is the ancestor of all Harcourt and cousin Rollo, leader of Norway, which gets Normandy in 911. From his marriage with Ancelin de Montfort, had three children Therould Lesceline died about 1058. Around 1025, the Duke of Normandy Robert le Diable offers Therould village on an area of his legacy. Robert the Devil is the father of William called "the bastard" born of an affair with Arlette, the daughter of a shoemaker (or a tanner by historians) of Falaise. William becomes the "Conqueror" after his victory at Hastings in 1066 on King Harold of England that he took the kingdom and the crown. Duke Robert share in the Holy Land to expiate his sins. Therould, tutor to William, supports the young duke. Around 1040, Therould is killed by William Montgomery who sought the young Duke to kill him. William, hidden in the castle, is not discovered and fled.

Therould leaves village legacy to his daughter Lesceline wife of William, Count d'Eu, son of Richard 1st Duke of Normandy. On the death of Lesceline, his son Robert, Earl of Eu, became lord of Bourgtheroulde. He accompanied William in his conquest of England. William II, son of Robert, is implicated in the conspiracy of Richard de Mowbray who wants to place on the throne of England Stephen Count of Aumale in place of King William the Conqueror's second son. In 1096, after the failure of the conspiracy, William is mutilated: his eyes are gouged out. The direct heirs of Therould no longer lords and bosses Bourgtheroulde.

In 1499, the fief of Bourgtheroulde was sold to William Rufus, received the same year to the Exchequer (Parliament of Normandy became the Palais de Justice of Rouen). The Le Roux family, which became the emblem of the village, marked the history of Bourgtheroulde.
