Located at the foot of the island of Oleron, the common Bourcefranc-le-Chapus has a privileged position on the Marennes. Facing the sea, this small town of 3,100 inhabitants is the first oyster port of Canton.

Fort Louvois, built by Vauban and now a historical monument, is a site worth visiting.

With its wooden shacks on stilts, its marshes and clear beach with a sailing school, Bourcefranc-le-Chapus is a pleasant place to stay in the heart of the country Marennes - Oleron.

Its position is ideal for exploring the area: on one side, the island of Oléron, with its long sandy beaches and forests, and the other, the Marennes with his City of the oyster , Brouage and ramparts of the 17th century, in the middle of the marsh.

• Fort Louvois maritime military fort built by Vauban to defend the arsenal of Rochefort. Ordered by Louvois in 1690, it aims to cross his gunfire with the citadel of Oleron. Open daily in July and August from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.: access by foot at low tide by the pavement of 400 m or by boat at high tide (free shuttle).
