"The most Flemish village of France" is how J. Desitter, great lover of Flanders, defined Bollezeele.
The weekly market and the novena once animated this county. Of all the surrounding villages, the farm brought in crowds eggs, butter and poultry known and sought after. As for the novena, they are thousands of people who came to venerate Our Lady of Bollezeele and that since the 15th century.
In those halcyon days, the center of the village has retained a large square surrounded by houses with solid floor and a big church down the centuries to contain the growing number of pilgrims. Numerous and generous, faithful to their sanctuary with a beautiful furniture: altarpieces, organs, woodwork, it must not fail to admire.
More recently, the Hotel de Ville (1933), although modest in size, is one of the most beautiful of Flanders. Most regional style, it is one of the witnesses to the will of the architects of reconstruction (after the first World War) to maintain the identity of the provinces.
