Origins and etymology
Not since the 12th century to find the earliest mention of the parish of Bidart (see Cartulary of Bayonne, folio 14, dated 1150-1170).
The name is "Bide Artean" which means "the lanes, at the crossroads". A Bidart, indeed, lead various roads from Biarritz, Bayonne, Arbonne, for Ahetze, Saint-Jean-de-Luz, and the old paths of cliffs.
The road to the Plateau Uhabia dates only from 1844 (execution Ministerial 22/09/1843).
It is the old road that descends from the plateau by the church (now Rue Erretegia) using public postal service on horseback. Bidart was an important relay for this office that existed in France since the 13th century found the house on the hill called "Posta". It is on this old road marched May 8, 1660 the brilliant cortege of Louis 14th on his way to St. Jean de Luz for his marriage with Maria Theresa of Austria, Infanta of Spain, under the Treaty of Pyrenees (signed in 1659 in the Isle of Pheasants Bidassoa by Mazarin and Luis de Haro).
