Beaujeu is proud of a glorious past.

It is the historic capital of Beaujolais region to which the lords of the place named after them: Beaujeu - Beaujolais. It was one of the three baronies of the kingdom of France, at a time, between the 11th and 15th century, where Beaujeu entered by marriage into the royal family.
