Built over the centuries on a picturesque hillside, Bazens owes its fame to its castle and church, dating from the 13th and 14th century and offers stunning views over the village of Clermont-Dessous.
The castle received during the Renaissance, the bishops of the Rovere. The Bishop of Agen Matteo Bandello lived there in turn. Clergyman but also a great writer, he wrote several novels, including one that inspired Shakespeare in his famous "Romeo and Juliet". From the castle, mansion Italian embellished by the famous architect Jacques Androuet, there remains the body of the central building, adorned with a tower stairs to seven sections of rare beauty.
The church of Saint Martial, originally simple Romanesque chapel, was transformed over the centuries into a masonry largest, is decorated with Gothic arches and stained glass. The portal of the church decorated with a stag and a boar pursued by dogs, probably reflects the taste of the bishops of Agen for hunting. Today, hunting is another activity widely practiced by the locals, organizing many wild boar.
Bazens, inside the "country of greenhouses" is full of culinary-based game and prunes d'Ente.
