Located between the lake of Serre-Ponçon and the top of Pouzenc (2898 m), the common Baratier covers 1490 ha. The old village is located 870 m along the impetuous torrent of Vachères. Subdivisions have emerged over the last thirty years, to the west of the village. Its inhabitants are called Baratons and Baratonnes. 4 km from Embrun and nearby ski resorts of Orres and Crévoux, Bartier has kept his face from yesteryear. Every Thursday evening in the summer, a village tour is narrated by a qualified guide by the Ministry of Culture.
