Between the lake of Serre-Ponçon and Pouzenc summit (2898 m), the town of Baratier covers 1490 ha. The old village is located 870 m along the impetuous torrent of Vachères. Subdivisions have emerged over the last thirty years, to the west of the village. Its inhabitants are called Baratons and Baratonnes. A 4 km from Embrun and nearby ski resorts and winter Orres Crévoux, Baratier has retained its old face. Every Thursday evening in the summer, a village tour is narrated by a qualified guide by the Ministry of Culture. Between channel and flood of Vachères, visiting Baratier to explore the issue of water in all its registers: the protection against floods, irrigation, using his strength, energy conversion ... Not to mention the streets of the village hall in the larch or the Church of St. Chaffrey. The trail ends at an exhibition of old photos to compare the landscapes of the late 19th century / early 20th century with those of today.
