The municipality of Bais is located in the district of Mayenne.

It is the capital of the canton, is one of nine municipalities in the community of common Bais and 39 municipalities of the SVET Coëvrons.

Located at the crossroads of east / west (Le Mans Ferns), and a north / south Villaines Evron, it is nestled in a valley at the bottom of which winds the river Aron.

His spelling has evolved over the centuries. In 642, there is evidence of a Villa Baudiaca. Then over time: Ecclesia Bediscum ... Ecclesia Sanctae Mariae Bedisco of ... Homines Bayes ... Parrochia of Bays ... Betz documents mention in the 16th century, then Bais, Berries, Bais, Low, or Bays. And in 1821, the spelling seems permanently attached to the current name: Bais (Dictionary of Abbé Angot Volume 1). Not so simple, given this history, to find a name for the inhabitants of the municipality. Today, the use tends to favor the term Baidicéens and Baidicéennes.
