• Location:

• Ayen, capital of Canton, is dominated by the Ayen of Puy, the highest point of the Yssandonnais (377 m) between Vézère and Auvézère, meeting point of the Perigord and Limousin. Located on the set of Yssandonnais equidistant from Brive, Terrasson and Hautefort (20 minutes), Ayen is 15 minutes from the motorway and 10 minutes from Objat.
• Backed by its limestone hill, Ayen will surprise you with its charm, diversity of scenery that surrounds it and its mild climate.

• History of Ayen:

• The story goes back to 850 Ayen when Viscounts of Limoges decided to set this up against a fortress to monitor the area.
• For centuries, the castle and church of Lower Ayen were witnessed many clashes. We know for example that in 1181, Ayen Castle, seat of a châtellenie, was besieged by a garrison of Richard the Lionheart as the lords drove soon after. In 1371, the soldiers of Prince Edward seized the castle. The population of the area, led by a citizen of Limoges, blockaded the fortress, the garrison starved, and after 17 days, the skidder. The English were to invade the building again in 1416. On March 12, 1417, the lords of Blanchefort Treignac, Pierrebuffière, Chateauneuf Cars and treated with the lieutenant of the Viscount of Limoges for the destruction of this fort which there remains no trace.
• From the outset, Ayen consists of two entities: High Ayen where most of the business and services, and Ayen Netherlands, the primitive village in the 12th century called Ayen-l'Eglise because of the magnificent church stood there, surrounded by the hotel Chabroulie the noble, the castle became Chabroulie, and hotel Razat noble, always present and recently restored.
