The city Avallon, "Aballo" in the Celtic world, is located in the heart of Burgundy. Perched on its rocky granite, dominates the valley of the Cousin since its terraced gardens. The Clock Tower (XVth century) opens the doors of the historic district of the city, with its old houses, towers, bastions, watchtowers ... and the collegiate church of Saint-Lazare, reflecting the architecture of the 12th century, with its two Romanesque doorways and twisted columns and fluted corrugated.
Belt picturesque city, the valley of Cousin and his multitude of trails clinging to the slope, the valley offers a multitude of different perspectives on the Morvan. This valley was also the industrial and business heart of the city until the early 20th century. Many mills and tanneries, now converted, bear witness to that past.

Avallon The city has several churches including Saint-Lazare collegiate church built in the 8th century, rebuilt and enlarged in the 12th century and the church of St. Martin in the 17th century. In its historic center, the House of Lords Domecy and the Office of Tourism show the Burgundian architecture of the 15th century. Another witness of this period, the Clock Tower, an ancient bell tower of 49 meters was built between 1456 and 1459. Finally the architecture reflects 17th century, the Municipal Museum of Avallonnais, former college and the Museum of Costume, a beautiful mansion from the 17th and 18th centuries, built by the Hotel de Conde, and the Grenier à Sel, a warehouse for Gabelle the 17th century. Not to mention the small streets of old Avallon, towers, bastions and turrets, to explore on foot, walking along the ramparts of the city.
Avallon also benefits from a green between its shaded walks (The Compost Vauban, the Promenade des Capuchins, or the soil of the door) and its gardens as Houdaille Square, one of Jacques Schiever (behind the Museum of 'Avallonnais) without forgetting its terraced gardens so special.
