Formerly called Auriac-en-Perigord, then Auriac de Montignac Auriac-du-Périgord should perhaps his name to a certain Aurelius Aurius or who have installed a "villa" Gallo-Roman times.
Thenon between Montignac and she snuggled into the valley of Laurence whose average gradient of 1% allowed once the diet of many mills (15 mills were told after 15 km). Its location, north of the Black Perigord halfway between Perigueux and Brive, in fact a place to stay, both quiet and close to famous tourist sites: Lascaux, the valley and the Vézère Eyzies, Rouffignac Hautefort and Sarlat.
The town, itself, presents a very interesting heritage linked to its ancient history and particular. The Lordship of Auriac was created in 1487, following the sale by the lords of Albret (House from which King Henry IV of France) rights to land and annuities Antoinette the wife of Pierre Arnal Cropte which the eldest son, François Arnal became lord of Faye and Auriac. This lordship is included in the county of Périgord while under the suzerainty of the house of Albret. Catholic in a Protestant, French and English in the middle, Auriac cultivated its uniqueness as evidenced by numerous towers.
With already over 200 "fires" and 1000 "souls" under Henry IV, despite the episodes of plague and famine, Auriac remains under the Old Regime to count 256 "fires" and 1200 to the Revolution. Auriac being an essentially wine, the arrival of phylloxera in 1875 will cause an exodus of the population along with the disappearance of the vineyard (1088 inhabitants in 1881 to 805 h in 1891). After WW1, the general phenomenon in France, the exodus will resume even more intense. Population will decrease to 300 inhabitants in 1980. It is now rising to 427 people.
