Name of inhabitants: Asséboliens or Asséens.

History:

Situated on the ancient Roman road leading from Jublains Mayenne to Oisseau-le-Petit, she would have welcomed a Gallo-Roman villa from the ist century.

With the Norman invasion, the small town is seen to provide an enclosure and a castle mound (wooden fort).
