At the gates of Cézallier stands Ardes-on-Couze, picturesque village occupying a promontory and basalt retaining many testimonies of its medieval past. Its history is linked to the powerful family Mercoeur. The remains of their castle overlooking the city.

Zone vast plateau between the Sancy north and the Cantal mountains to the south, Cézallier pauses in volcanic terrain.
