Chief town of canton of Dawn, Arcis has just over three thousand inhabitants.
This is a town that might want a small town since there Arcisiens have everything you need to live. Since food shops to administrative services through dozens of merchants, artisans, restaurants, doctors, etc.. Not to mention schools, industries, transport ... Crossed by the river Aube, the city is abundantly flowered and as such, has the national label "Three Flowers".
SIGHTSEEING
Built in 1721 by Pierre Grassin Arcis-sur-Aube Castle is surrounded by a beautiful acre park designed by Le Nôtre. Listed building, it now houses the town hall. Balzac has located the action of his novel "The Member for Arcis" in this beautiful building.
Also classified, the church of Saint-Etienne to the early 16th century Flamboyant Gothic style presents a very pure: almost completely destroyed by bombs in 1940 it was rebuilt exactly.
One of the largest breweries of champagne had its headquarters in the center of Arcis. The brewery was a place in the beer business and arcisienne of Arcis was very popular in the department but also in Paris. All that remains today of these buildings that the huge cellars dug on three levels and a magnificent dwelling. Residence of the owners of the brewery, the Primrose Villa is one of the finest examples of architectural and industrial heritage of the Dawn.
In the center of the city, a statue of Danton said that Arcis-sur-Aube is the birthplace of the famous revolutionary.
