LOCATION

TOWN PRESENTATION

The village lies at the northern end of the Vosges department at 4 km from the capital of Canton: Mirecourt.
The village grew on the hillside on the left bank of Madon. The bottom of the village lies at an altitude of 259 meters while the high peaks over 280 meters. This height allows visitors to see from afar, giving the impression that it is nestled in lush greenery. Thus wood, orchards and meadows surrounding the village and offer lush vegetation that give the space a feeling of tranquility and peace. Also the vegetation along the Madon offers a special atmosphere playing a real "buffer between the village and the road."

The village of Ambacourt existed since antiquity. This presence is evidenced by mounds dating from 1 000 to 500 BC located in the woods nearby. Ambacourt was also the scene of many wars and conflicts?
1390: Battle between Burgundian lords and the Duke of Lorraine.
1576: war, famine and plague are rife. These are the wars of religion, and the troops are committing murders in the villages and looting.
1633: the war of 30 years. The Swedes ravaged the region? In 1638 the Miller remains the only occupant of the village.
