The town of Aix, in a valley, is surrounded on all sides by forested mountains that rise up to 1113 meters south in wood de Guerin.

Aix is the birthplace of the great family of La Fayette. Pons Motier, knight, lord of La Fayette, participated in the Seventh Crusade.
