On the borders of Flanders and Artois, the Airois like to show their city on the pathways of the green Lys. Located 250 km from Paris, 60 km from Lille (northern capital), Arras (the prefecture), Côte d'Opale and 10 km from the A26 motorway, via the exchanger Therouanne Aire-sur-la-Lys has kept the charm of old cities with narrow streets lined with facades of 17th and 18th century, punctuated here and there with prestigious architectural buildings, witnesses of a rich historical past.
As the common name suggests, the natural heritage Aire-sur-la-Lys mainly revolved around water. The city is bisected by the Lys river 214 km long and flows into the Scheldt at Ghent and its seven tributaries: the Melde, the Lacquer, the Lacquette the Mardyck the Oduel the Bruveau and Lauwette.
Tradition Merchant: All year, the colorful markets and friendly animate the streets and squares of Aire-sur-la-Lys. The market Friday morning, the cattle market, the Christmas market in late December, the flower market and the Open City, respectively 1st and 2nd Sunday of May, are opportunities to experience the friendliness of the city.

"She held the first Sunday in September and honors one of the specialties of Aire-sur-la-Lys, andouille.
- The people attending the launch of chitterlings bretèche top of the Bailiwick.
- Of course tastings are possible, all in a festive atmosphere with parades, races, trails, and variety show.
- This event is held every first Sunday in July around the basin of the Four Faces.
- What day are offered many water activities.
- Note: other water festivals are held during the same period in many cities along the Lys.
- The procession of Our Lady Panetière:
- In 1214, the besieged and starving city received a convoy laden with grain. Seeing a divine intervention, the people devoted to the Virgin Panetière, became patron of the city, a special veneration. In the early 16th century, the brotherhood of the same name made a maiden run of the Assumption for his chapel in the Cathedral Saint-Pierre. Sprayed in the bombing of 1944, she is patiently restored and placed at the crossing.
- Today's devotion to Our Lady Panetière is very lively and novena is a preferred meeting time.
- It became a rendezvous of Airois quite popular. The Christmas market attracts an annual audience of more and more people are coming back into the holiday spirit year-end.
