Aigne the village is located on a vein of sandstone that extends from Bram, Aude Beziers in the Herault. It speaks of "sandstone Aigne" mainly used for construction of buildings and the sandstone is also mentioned in geological terms in the expression "marl" which also defines a specific terroir wine known locally as "the mourels" in which one sees a landscape of sandstone hills surrounded by plains eroded marl.
Aigne is located 25 km from Narbonne and Saint-Pons de Thomières, 40 km from Carcassonne and Beziers, 91 km from Perpignan, Montpellier 110 km and 140 km from Toulouse.
To see Aigne: the snail in the heart of the medieval village of Aigne. This area of the snail builds spiral follows the telluric currents flowing in a spiral beneath our feet. The Church of St. Martin in the 11th century chapel built on a Visigoth oldest, is accessible through a porch, formerly protected by a drawbridge and a portcullis, which gives its charm to the set of narrow pedestrian alleyways. This entry in the snail gives this Circulade its unique because there is no other door to reach the center. Aigne is part of Circular Villages of the first millennium identified among a hundred others in Languedoc-Roussillon and the village is also one of the "Doors of Minerva" who guarded the city now known for his major involvement in the defense of Cathar faith in the 13th century.
