Vieux-Port

Located in the department of Eure, between the forest of Brotonne and the Marsh Vernier, Vieux-Port is a small village full of character.

The village is an ancient Gallo-Roman port of Portus Tutus, now a tourist destination in Normandy.

Its dream location in the heart of the Seine valley and the Regional Nature Park of the Boucles de la Seine Normande makes it a must stop on the famous road Chaumières.

Vieux-Port has a typical Norman architecture with its traditional houses covered with stubble. Discover these architectural treasures during a walk.

Things to see and do

The village of charming, picturesque Vieux-Port has great tourist attraction with its many half-timbered houses. These traditional houses are witnesses of the Norman regional expertise. The architectural elements come from local resources. The frame and the timber from neighboring woods, the foundations of the cottage and the basement of flint and limestone blocks basement surroundings and stems of reeds that cover the roof come from the Seine valley. The filling is designed from mud silt.

To discover and understand the history of this exceptional heritage, take the famous Route Cottages, Treasure of the Seine valley, 53 km long. It travels through such villages Aizier, Vieux-Port, Trouville-la-Haule or Marais-Vernier and Quillebeuf-sur-Seine. The streets of these villages have survived the ages and keep their authenticity.

Ideal for families, the trail to Vieux-Port Portus Tutus is a nature walk of 1.9 km, which is part of the road Chaumières. This small circuit to walk from the village church you will discover your most typical rhythm but also one of the best preserved Norman villages. The history of Vieux-Port, but also the composition of the landscape are explained on two large signs along the route. Five other small panels are also scattered on the trail.
