Additional information
Saint-Honoré-les-Bains

Nestled in the Natural Park of the Morvan, Saint-Honoré-les-Bains is a small spa which is part of towns and villages in bloom. Surrounded by lush greenery, the town is an ideal place to recharge your batteries and enjoy the benefits of spring water. It specializes in respiratory tract infections and rheumatism treatment. And when the cure is over, the rest of the day is occupied by the discovery of splendid landscapes composed of pond, forests and valleys. Formerly, the pretty little village had 13 ponds on the commune. The source of Tussy was considered to possess a miraculous water capable of curing all evils. Moreover, the Romans were not mistaken at the time by building 9 wells to take advantage of these hot springs. The Roman baths were in operation for 500 years until the 5th century. Then the Middle Ages comes to leave its imprint and in 1106, the commune takes the name of Saint-Honorat. It was not until 1855 that the thermal baths opened their doors again.

Things to see and do

From its tumultuous history, the town has many vestiges. Between old stones, curative water and luxuriant nature, the stay promises rich and relaxing. It all starts with a walk in the past and to get there you will take a stretch of the ancient way trampled by Julius Caesar himself. The old market place is a picturesque place. He stood at the place called L'Echalotte. On this same square stands the house, which was the place of salt deposit. Further, the House of the Gué dating from the thirteenth century will not fail to challenge you. Continuing on your way, you will arrive in front of the Grenier à Grains of the Château de la Montagne. Surrounded by old houses dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, you will go up the street that leads to the well where once the inhabitants took water before the arrival of running water. The post office is still there. Formerly, relay stagecoach, the building has become over time a cafe that unfortunately closed in 1970. The large garage could shelter up to 80 vehicles at the time when luxurious sedans with drivers came to deposit their rich patron to the baths.

Finally, the current baths are built on the ancient site of the Roman baths. They are now powered by only three sources out of five. A casino is also present in the town. The tour continues with the visit of the castle of the Mountain classified to the Historic Monuments. The manor of the Queudre has a subterranean passage that allowed to connect the castle. She was gendarmerie then prison. The Manor du Gué is no longer similar because of the many renovations undertaken by the various owners. Your path will also be staked by the mills, present in number on the commune.

Nature lovers will certainly be delighted to learn that many hiking trails are at their disposal to explore the natural surroundings. Ponds, lakes and rivers are open to fishing provided they have a fishing license.

You can admire a very beautiful collection of pottery on the ground floor of the Town Hall and visit the Museum of the Resistance recalling the German occupation.
