Founded in 1976, Martinique Regional Nature Park was the first reserve of its kind to be created on a tropical island. Covering 63,000 hectares, it occupies a large part of the island, encompassing 32 of the 34 municipalities of Martinique. La Trinité, Sainte-Anne, Sainte-Marie, Saint-Pierre, Le Diamant, Le Vauclin and Le Morne-Vert are part of this protected territory.

A walk in the Regional Nature Park is a chance to admire incredible fauna and flora. A real paradise for hikers and nature-lovers, it has a great many natural sites to admire.

You can't miss the famous Pelée mountain volcano, the impressive Carbet mountains or the magnificent Caravelle peninsula. In south Martinique, the Capes Trail (Trace des Caps), a superb coastal path, and the Salines pond, a sanctuary for many migrant birds, are other sites that you simply must visit if you want to see the island in all its splendour.

In the municipality of Fonds-Saint-Denis, make the most of a nice little walk at the heart of the tropical forest and pay a visit to the Saut-Gendarme waterfall, which is very scenic and is about ten metres high. An ideal place for a moment's relaxation, a refreshing swim or a picnic break amid lush greenery!

Located in the territory of Le Morne-Rouge, the Domaine d'Émeraude is one of the island's gems and enjoys a uniquely idyllic setting. Here, nature still reigns supreme and the biodiversity is exceptional. Children and grown-ups alike can enjoy nearly four kilometres of forest paths, with three trails lasting 15, 30 or 60 minutes to discover a host of native species. The Domaine d'Émeraude also has a wonderful park with gardens and conservatories, an ideal place for a peaceful stroll and a chance to see many rare or native species. Both educational and fun, the nature exploration pavilion is an opportunity to learn more about the island's natural history.
