With the Mediterranean Sea on one side and Provence on the other, the Esterel is a volcanic mountain range with plenty of charm. This enchanting natural site with a jagged skyline is clad in a magnificent palette of colours. First of all, there is the characteristic red colour that comes from a volcanic rock dating back several hundred million years: red porphyry. Then you have the blue of the sea, which turns turquoise when the sun shines with all its might. Not forgetting the green of the maquis shrubland and stone pines that complete this picture postcard landscape.
By taking the Corniche d'Or road which connects Saint-Raphaël in Var to Théoule-sur-Mer in Alpes-Maritimes, a series of superb viewpoints await you at almost every bend! Step out of your car and admire the cliffs, islets, red rocks emerging from the water and small coves shaded by stone pines.
When it comes to outings, the Esterel Massif caters equally well to hikers, mountain bikers and horse-riders. Numerous circuits criss-cross the site and lead to various unmissable places such as the Saint-Barthélemy Rock, the Cap du Dramont, the peak of Cap Roux, Mount Vinaigre, the highest point in the mountain range at 618 metres in altitude, and the Blavet Gorges. Don't miss the beautiful walk to the Pic de l'Ours, a mountain peak offering stunning views of the Mediterranean coastline. And once you reach the top, the panoramic view over the region will leave you speechless! Climbing enthusiasts will also have a great time on the site's various rock faces.
