Discovered in 1889 by the famous speleologist Edouard-Alfred Martel, the Demoiselles cave is situated in Saint-Bauzille-de-Putois, in the Hérault valley. A subterranean funicular leads the visitors to the entrance to the Demoiselles cave. Having crossed several rooms decorated with concretions, the spectators discover, stunned, the immense and magnificent "Abysses Cathedral", a room measuring 120 metres in length, 80 metres in width and 52 metres in height, in which stalagmites, stalactites, draperies and columns offer themselves to the eyes. It is in the same room that can be observed the stalagmite of the Virgin and the Child.
