Practised predominantly in the Landes and Gers departments, the course landaise is one of the four kinds of bull-fighting and is different from the three others in that only cows, rather than bulls, are used, and the animal is not put to death. This traditional sport is still going and is often at the centre of village festivals through the summer.
With its lovely covered arenas, the village of Pomarez, in Chalosse, is particularly well-known by aficionados for being the Mecca of the course landaise.
To know more about the history and rules concerning this ancestral practice, you can visit the Course Landaise Museum in Bascons, near the Chapel of Our Lady of the Course Landaise Chapel.
