Dotted with battlefield remains, military cemeteries and commemorative monuments, such as the Beaumont-Hamel Newfoundland Memorial, the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme, the Ulster Tower in Thiepval, the South African Memorial in Longueval and the Australian Memorial in Villers-Bretonneux, the Circuit of Remembrance is a reminder of the intensity and horror of the fighting that took place in the Somme during the First World War, particularly the Battle of the Somme in 1916 and the Battle of Picardy in 1918.

Museums to be visited: the Somme 1916 museum in Albert, which recall the life of the soldiers in trenches; The Historial de la Grande Guerre in Péronne, a museum dedicated to the history of the First World war.
