Nestling in the peaceful Ernée Valley, on the edge of the Mayenne forest, the little character town of Chailland is dominated by the silhouette of a rocky peak on which stands a statue of the Virgin. Accessible by way of a path, which runs alongside a rose garden, the summit of the Rock of the Virgin (Rocher de la Vierge) offers a beautiful view over the Ernée Valley. As well as these attractions, you can also admire the terraced gardens of the old presbytery, the banks of the Ernée dotted with washhouses, and also Clivoy Castle with its remarkable garden. A charmingly picturesque ensemble to enjoy on delightful walk!

Chailland

Located on the edge of the forest of Mayenne, commune Chailland is located in the Pays de la Loire, in the department of Mayenne. This small town that takes place deep in Ernee Valley is located in the district of Laval.

Cited by the end of the eleventh century in the records, Chailland farmland was long specialized in the production of rye. But it is the forge that gave its letters of nobility to the town. The establishment is renowned for more than three centuries.

Today Chailland mainly on tourism. The city awarded three flowers in the competition of cities and flowered villages of France impresses with its architecture as much as the landscapes that surround it.

Things to see and do

Former property of the Duchess of Mazarin, the Villeneuve Castle still has a stove and a forge. Older than two centuries, the building also reveals to visitors a beautiful pond.

Neo-Gothic church Chailland was built in the nineteenth century as a tribute to the architecture of the thirteenth century. The building took place on the remains of an old Romanesque church.

The botanical garden of Chestnut Grove can admire several species of flowers and small trees. Halfway through the trail, a charming garden reveals its wonders. Down the road, the view from the summit offers incredible scenery.
