A medieval village in Gard Provence, Castillon-du-Gard has pretty alleyways that wind their way between houses made of golden stone. Once their walk is over, visitors should make their way to the panoramic viewpoint near the public car park, which offers a beautiful view of the Gardon valley and the famous silhouette of the Pont du Gard bridge.

Located as the name suggests in the Gard, this small town of about 1600 inhabitants dominates one end of the Gardon gorges and sits on a hill in calcareous sandstone with a magnificent view of the rest of the region.

Site known since prehistoric times, the town of Castillon-du-Gard was hit hard during the religious wars of the sixteenth century. However, one can still admire some beautiful buildings restored by the municipality.

On tourism today, the town is frequented by visitors throughout the year. Nice and charming, she seduces indeed people wishing to learn more about the history of the area and admire the beautiful scenery of this part of France.

Things to see and do

Walking through the narrow streets of Castillon-du-Gard, it is still possible to admire some beautiful monuments testifying to the importance of the city over the centuries.

Thus, two beautiful chapels take place in Castillon-du-Gard. St. Kitts one hand, with its fragments of polychrome paint, and St. capers. The latter, in Romanesque style, this particular one nave with two spans. Both buildings date from medieval times to the outside.

Hiking trails abound in Castillon-du-Gard. The most important is surely the GR 63, which runs between Villeneuve-lès-Avignon and the neck of the Cabanne Vella, over 134 km. This allows cross Castillon-du-Gard and especially admire the fortifications and the old historic door of the stronghold.

The town also hosts an interesting leprosarium of new wells and Articoyse and Castle Belle Vue which dates from the eighteenth century.

Events and festivities

The village of Castillon-du-Gard no lack of entertainment over the months and shown a great commitment to cultural life.

Castillon-du-Gard The market is held every Tuesday morning from July to September. Organic wine and regional products are essential in this Provencal market.

The great international festival of guys who play on a stool is held annually in February.

In July, the city organizes its town festivals with many events. Concerts are offered for two days, as entertainment, a children's village or alternative stands.
