In Tarn, the bastide of Castelnau-de-Montmiral has the particularity of being classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France. Built in around 1222, the fortified village has withstood many conflicts and thus preserved its beautiful heritage. Before entering the bastide, you will see that only three of the ramparts' original six gates are still in place. Inside the enclosure, take the time to wander through the maze of alleyways: the pretty brick and half-timbered houses are a feast for the eyes.
One of the village's must-see attractions, the central square with its pointed arches is a real jewel of medieval architecture! The 15th and 16th-century church contains the Montmiral cross, a reliquary decorated with 310 precious stones, which belonged to the Counts of Armagnac. Don't miss the town hall and the 17th-century Bozat House.
