Bouillante - Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Guadeloupe

A tourist hotspot famous for its water sports, Bouillante is located on the west coast of Basse-Terre, between Anse à la Barque, a superb, unspoilt little bay, and the River Colas. Founded in the 17th century, this locality owes its name (which means "boiling") to the presence of hot springs, which today supply a geothermal power station.

Though the municipality is particularly renowned for its Malendure Beach, lined with coconut palms, it is also famous for the Cousteau Reserve, where the magnificent sea bed can be viewed in glass-bottomed boats, kayaks with transparent hulls, snorkelling, or scuba diving around the Pigeon islets. The very lively Malendure Beach, with its black sand, will delight anyone who enjoys sunbathing and swimming!

Additional information

Common famous Guadeloupe, Bouillante, called "islet-to-Guava" when it was founded in the 17th century, is one of the oldest towns of Guadeloupe.

Its current name comes from the many hot springs (80 °) that flow across the area, including under the sea If the people have long cooked eggs, the true natural wealth led to the implantation of a geothermal well to Bouillante. The electricity produced - the resulting steam turbines - is absolutely clean and illuminates the "Kaz" Pointe Noire Old Inhabitants. At the hot springs there are other natural resources: the beauty of the seabed. The town has become the major site of diving in Guadeloupe.
