Nestling in the heart of a magnificent cirque, the village of Baume-les-Messieurs, listed as one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France, takes advantage of an exceptional natural setting. The famous high cliffs can be contemplated off several viewpoints dominating the roofs of Baume-les-Messieurs. In the village itself, you mustn't miss the Benedictine abbey founded in the 6th century. Its Romanesque abbey church is unusual in that it is home to a magnificent Flemish altarpiece dating from the 16th century.

Classified among the most beautiful villages in France, Baume-les-Messieurs is nestled in the JURA department, at the bottom of a circus surrounded by high cliffs. Cité de Character de Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, it takes place not far from Lons-le-Saunier, offering breathtaking views of the most famous remote remote in the region.

Occupied from prehistory, as evidenced by the traces of under-rock shelter found on the spot, the village of Baume-les-Messieurs is developing from the beginning of the 10th century with the creation of a monastery dependent on the abbey of Cluny. Things to see and do

Partly classified with historical monuments, the Abbey Saint-Pierre is an old Benedictine abbey created at the end of the 9th century by Father Bernon, famous founder of Cluny Abbey. Romanesque and Gothic style, it still reveals buildings built at different times like the Romanesque church of the 11th century, of the Court of the Cloister, the Court of Canonies of the 18th century, or the Abbey courtyard. The latter presents buildings at the facades of the sixteenth century, as well as the abbatial home. The latter presents a very beautiful vaulted room of the 13th century. The church has in its interior of very beautiful statues of all origins, a Flemish altarpiece of the sixteenth century, or of paintings of the 17th century.

By striving in the city, do not miss to admire the Chapel Notre-Dame, or the many crosses listed or classified with historical monuments like those of the Peyrous of the 15th century, of the Pré Saint John of the sixteenth century, or the pea of ​​the sixteenth century as well.

Listed in the historical monuments, the Saint-Jean-Baptist church does not lack any interest, as is the oratory of the toupe and the Oratory of the BIS field.

Baume-les-Messieurs also has several farms from the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, a 16th century mansion, or bridges of the nineteenth century all registered or classified. The old bridge over the Seille, of the 13th century, is also registered.
