Built in the late 17th century at the request of Jean-Jacques de Mesmes, Count of Avaux and principal magistrate (président à mortier) at the Paris Parliament, the Church of St Didier in Asfeld is now a listed Historic Monument and surprises visitors with its viola de gamba shape and Baroque style! Unusual to say the least, this remarkable brick edifice, whose walls have no straight lines, is made up of a peristyle surrounded by an openwork colonnade, a campanile with arched bays, and a rotunda.

An international viola de gamba festival takes place there every two years in June.
