From Épinal, make your way towards Vittel via the D166. After passing through Golbey, at the roundabout, turn towards Uxegney-Uxegney Fort. Follow signs to Uxegney Fort and when you arrive there, park at the small car park nearby.

Itinerary

On the way out of the car park, turn left on to the tarmac road signposted with a green dot and a green +. The road follows the so-called 60 cm railway line between Uxegney Fort (1) and Bois l'Abbé Fort, 1.2 km away.

At the junction with the Godelle road, continue straight ahead and then, 30 m further on, turn left on to a path that passes Bois l'Abbé Fort (2), visible in the distance through the trees. On this stretch of winding forest road, pay close attention to the signposting.

After crossing a small stream, you will pass below a power line and, 100 m further on, the path turns left and leads to the edge of the forest. Follow it on the right and then turn left on to a street which passes between the houses. At the end of the street, opposite an electricity pole, turn right and make your way to a road that leads to Domèvre-sur-Avière (3).

As you cross through the village, you will pass the town hall-school, and arrive at a crossroads. Turn left, then immediately right towards Fomerey. Leave the church on your right and cross the Avière. It is time for a break in the field near the Grande Fontaine spring (4).

After the bridge, follow the road on the left off the trail for 50 m, then turn right on to a gravel path which follows a wall for 40 m. Return to the itinerary by following the road. Further on, leave Rue des Rappes on your right and 20 m on the left, take a small tarmac road signposted with a red +, which becomes a stone path which heads towards the forest over the pastures and fields. Follow it for 50 m then turn right and take a forest path which is still signposted with a red +.

At the end of the straight section, turn left, then 30 m further on, turn right and leave the forest. Take the path on the left signposted with a green dot which follows the forest. Cross the bridge over the D166 and, following the green dot and green + signposting, make your way down to the village of Uxegney. At the bottom of the hill, follow the road (D41) on the left for 150 m. Cross the Avière again and climb up to the main street which leads you along Rue des Forts to where you started out.
